Robert DiCenso
R.Acu
Registered Acupuncturist | Manual Therapy Specialist | Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt (ADCC World Semi-Finalist)
Clinical Excellence
Robert completed a 3-year Acupuncture diploma program at Eight Branches Academy of Eastern Medicine in Toronto. Following that he successfully completed the board exam with CTCMPAO (governing board of Ontario) in 2015. Robert is a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) and a specialist in Dynamic Manual Interface (DMI. Robert combines his deep understanding of structural leverage with clinical acupuncture to determine the root cause of dysfunction. His goal is to restore function and balance, whether for a professional athlete or a patient managing chronic inflammation. A veteran of the clinical arts and the martial arts, Robert brings a unique perspective on human recovery and high-performance biomechanics to Phases Health & Wellness.
A Legacy of Elite Performance
After completing the Acupuncture board exam, Robert dedicated himself to studying a type of manual therapy called Dynamic Manual Therapy. DMI focuses on how the tissues in the body create pressure differentials in order to guide fluid and nutrients throughout the body. By helping to re-establish this system, the body is able to correct and heal itself. Before establishing his clinical practice, Robert competed at the highest level of international grappling, notably as a semifinalist at the 2005 ADCC World Championships. As a Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu Black Belt, he has spent decades studying how the human body moves, absorbs impact, and recovers from extreme physical stress. This "tactile intelligence" is the foundation of his clinical work today.
The Science of Pressure and Release
Robert continues to study and utilizes both acupuncture and manual therapy in his clinical practice. His approach to treatment is to determine what is the root dynamic that is creating the dysfunction, and how does it relate to the rest of the body. With this in mind, techniques are used to help restore function. Robert’s practice is built on the understanding that pain is often rooted in pressure differentials within the body’s tissues. Utilizing DMI, he performs subtle, non-invasive manual releases to re- establish natural fluid and nutrient flow. By leading with these gentle manual techniques, Robert helps "down-regulate" the nervous system, providing a painless entry point for patients who are apprehensive about needles.
Fun Facts!
Robert is a resident of the Vaughan community and remains deeply involved in the martial arts as both a practitioner and instructor of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. An avid mountain biker and hiker, he believes that health is a lifestyle sustained by rest, nutrition, and a healthy sense of purpose. Robert believes in a lifestyle that supports health: One with adequate amounts of rest, plenty of nutritious food, meaningful relationships and a healthy sense of purpose.
"Tonight was my 4th visit to Phases for Acupuncture. Robert is absolutely fantastic; everytime I leave I feel alot more mobile, sleep better and aches and pains are subsided.
Robert also gives optional advice on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout his session.
He is very vocal and knowledgeable on his practice in terms of explaining needling points and areas he is treating.
I would definitely trying his service and highly recommend Robert."
